Inside industry I The Marketplace Diamond Grip With all the winter warfare training currently being conducted by the Canadian Army, it's not hard to envision scenarios where personal soldier "snow tires" might come in handy. North Carolina-based ICEtrekkers is touting the latest in its line of winter traction products, a hardened steel chain called Diamond Grip that can slip on to any shoe or boot. As the company notes in a press release, while military vehicles may be equipped for all weather conditions, their maintenance in the field still requires the job be done on foot. And in icy conditions, good grip can be critical. Diamond Grip consists of a rectangle of gripping beads under the ball of the foot and a triangle under the heel, attached with hardened steel chain and steel rivets to a rubber sling that slips over the toe and heel of outdoor footwear. To date, the company says it has sold over 500,000 sets to the military, utility workers, waste management workers, law enforcement, firefighters and other outdoor professionals. "You can put them on or take them off in a couple of seconds wearing winter gloves, and they grip like nothing you've ever seen," says ICEtrekkers founder Kate LaGrand. masks and various communication devices and comes in three cut styles.
