Photo: DND as National Rear Link function to all sig- nificant international and domestic opera- tions, National Service Desk backup func- tions and other assigned national tasks. 4 The Combined Joint Intelligence Modernization will provide the Cana- dian Armed Forces with the network archi- tecture, data processing, communication equipment, secure sensitive work environ- ment, and garrison infrastructure to gener- ate, employ, and sustain the core of four deployable land-based All Source Intelli- gence Centres in support of full spectrum of combined and joint military operations. 5 Finally, the Canadian Forces Elec- tronic Warfare Modernization will dramatically improve the ability of the Canadian Army to operate in and dominate the Electromagnetic Spectrum. Deliverables will include Electronic Support systems, Elec- tronic Attack systems and Electro- magnetic Spectrum planning, man- agement and analysis tools. Additionally, we are conducting the Options Analysis for Weapons we recently progressed five SSE projects into the Options Analysis phase of the proj- ect process: 1 The Land Command Support Sys- tem (LCSS) Tactical Communications Modernization Project will modernize and improve the Canadian Army's tactical dis- mounted and vehicle platform mounted tactical communications, modernize the vehicle mounted network, and modernize the wide area communication system. 2 The LCSS Tactical Command, Con- trol, Information System Moderniza- tion will modernize and optimize the tools available to tactical commanders and their staffs to plan and execute land operations by re-capitalizing the in-service systems. 3 The Joint Deployable Headquarters and Signal Regiment Modernization will modernize 1 Canadian Division Head- quarters equipment and facilities in meet- ing its roles in regard to fielding a Joint Deployable Headquarters and modern- izing the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment in providing integral support to the Joint Deployable Headquarters as well Effects Simulation Mid-Life Upgrade as part of the simulation portfolio. Overall, these projects should constitute roughly $4 billion of procurement. Q The logic behind seeking short, cyclical procurement cycles for high tech procurements seems to be well understood and supported by Army leadership. How optimistic are you that the projects inside of SSE can be "re- profiled" to fit this model?
