I inside industry inBrief Airborne Systems Canada of Belleville, Ont., received a $3.6 mil- lion contract for 600 T-11 parachutes. The T-11 parachutes will replace the Canadian Forces current CT-1 chutes and are certified for use on the C-17 (Globemaster), C-130J (Hercules) and CH-147 (Chinook) aircraft. Public Works and Governments Services Canada has awarded lion. The deals include a MH-60R avionics maintenance trainer and weapons load trainer for the Royal Australian Navy, a C-130J weapon systems trainer for the United States Air Force (USAF), construction of a training facility for the Kuwait Air Force, and additional training support services as part of the KC-135 aircrew training system program for the USAF. The agreements come on the heels of an earlier announcement for $90 million in service and upgrade contracts with the USAF C-130J Maintenance and Aircrew Training System program, the C-130 Aircrew Training System program, the U.S. Navy MH-60S operational flight and weapons tactics trainers, and the German Armed Forces flight simulators. Cassidian a $65 million program to equip Royal Canadian Air MAN Diesel & Turbo Canada hosted an industry day to showcase its PrimeServ Service Centre in Halifax to regional companies. The event, which focused on MAN's efforts around the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy, was organized in cooperation with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Atlantic Alliance of Aerospace and Defence Associations and attracted over 75 representatives from small- and medium-sized businesses. Mississauga-based Smiths Detection Canada has received an order for its hand-held RadSeeker radiation detector and identifier from the Canada Border Services Agency. The portable devices will be deployed at key entry points in Montreal, Vancouver, and Halifax. The federal government has invested $227,079 in Medicine Hat College through Western Economic Diversification Canada to support the purchase of three-dimensional rapid prototyping and scanning equipment. The investment is intended to support the area's small and medium unmanned vehicle systems companies with product design, development and commercialization. General Dynamics Canada has introduced a tactical mobile rout- er, the TMR 200, able to share high-bandwidth applications such as situational awareness information or battle management applications in tactical environments where wireless network infrastructures do not exist. The compact and modular router can be configured and integrated in a variety of platforms and offers the advanced networking features needed to interconnect with a vehicle's electronic architecture and C4I systems. Montreal-based CAE solidified its fourth quarter 2013 earnings with a series of contracts valued at approximately $130 mil- 10 APRIL/MAY 2013 Lockheed Martin Canada has been briefing companies across the country about opportunities under the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy. In early April, it met with businesses at a shipbuilding symposium in Vancouver hosted by Western Economic Diversification Canada to understand western Canadian capability as it begins its role as the combat systems integrator to Irving Shipbuilding for the Arctic Off-shore Patrol Ships. Lockheed Martin is also in the midst of delivering the $2.1 billion Halifax Class Modernization program. As part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy, the federal government in February signed preliminary contracts with Vancouver Shipyards valued at $15.7 million for the assessment of Joint Support Ship options, review of polar icebreaker options and the refinement of offshore fisheries science vessel design and specifications. Cambridge, Ontario-based Com Dev International has been awarded a $4.7 million contract to design satellite equipment for the first phase of the Medium Earth Orbit Search and Rescue Project. Under the contract awarded by Public Works and Government Services Canada, Com Dev will develop a repeater as part of the payload of a satellite for the next generation of the global search and rescue system known as Cospas-Sarsat. Laval-based Sélect Global International has been awarded a $19.6 million contract for CF-18 pilot training and simulator operation services. The five-year contract is being awarded through the Advanced Distributed Combat Training System and includes options to extend the deal for an additional 10 years. The ADCTS has allowed CF-18 pilots to train on the recently modernized aircraft and upgraded weapons systems in a simulated environment. Canada's first dedicated operational military satellite, Sapphire, was launched in February by the Indian Space Research Organization. The space-based electro-optical sensor, developed by MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates, will track objects in Earth's orbit between 6,000 and 40,000 km in altitude, part of Canada's contribution to Space Situational Awareness. Cassidian will provide seven of its ASR NG wide area surveillance radars to improve flight safety and enhance the integration of military aviation and civilian air traffic. The ASR NG also comprises the secondary radar MSSR 2000 I, which is able to identify over a thousand aircraft at a time.
