EVENTS BY HEATHER PILOT, PILOT HILL LTD 32 OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2022 www.vanguardcanada.com A fter two long years, we are thrilled to finally host the Best Defence Conference as an in-person event once again. Now in its eleventh year, Best Defence Confer- ence continues to offer great value for attendees already in the Canadian defence marketplace, as well as those new to the industry. Our motto continues to be "Best Defence – Best Value!" Best Defence only succeeds because of the valuable counsel and support of our great Advisory Board. My heartfelt and sin- cere thanks to: • John de Boer, BlackBerry • Greg Burton, Dew Engineering • Manoj Mehta, FPH Group • Doug Wilson-Hodge, General Dynamic Land Systems-Canada • Mark Patterson, SRC Canada • Kristen Csenkey, PhD Candidate (Global Governance with a focus on Cybersecurity) at the Balsillie School • Eva Martinez, Bluedrop Training • Peter Studer, CFN Consultants • Ken McConnell, FedDev Ontario • Alex Tsoulis, MHI Canada Aerospace • Stan Jacobson, Seaspan Shipyards More than ever, our military and government realize how im- perative it is that they collaborate with the private sector to access and implement the most innovative of technologies in this fast changing and complex world. Due to the depth of our program this year, we only had room for a limited number of companies to participate in the Tech Showcase. Check out these amazing companies below and make sure to meet with them at the conference. Hexa- gon's location intelligence and geospatial platforms help defence agencies transform complex data into informed decision-mak- ing. Our solutions empower armed forces and defence companies with geospatial in- telligence and real-time situational aware- ness capabilities across air, land, sea and joint operations. Waterloo, ON Presenting: Gary Allan, Principal Engineer Email: gallan@kaimaging.com Founded in 2015, KA Imaging is a spin- off from the University of Waterloo that specializes in innovative X-ray imaging technologies and systems. The company develops unique detectors and imaging products that leverage cut- ting edge multi-energy and phase contrast X-ray technologies for medical, industrial, veterinary, non-destructive test (NDT), and scientific imaging customers. KA Imaging is at the Best Defense Con- ference presenting its Reveal 35C, a sin- gle-exposure dual-energy X-ray detector. From one X-ray exposure, this detector provides 3 different images with no mo- tion artifacts: a standard X-ray, and two additional images that can separate two different materials such as metals and plas- tics. The highly affordable, portable detec- tor is universally compatible with existing X-ray sources, does not change existing X- ray techniques and can be used in remote or hard to access settings. Given its flexibility, the technology can benefit applications including aerospace, naval and automotive NDT, military uses for battlefield trauma and prolonged care and also portable security screening.
