Right now I fear that our collective acceptance of many practices in Defence, such as procurement policies, inclusion of industry, and changing ways of working, may be depriving service personnel of solutions which industry technical, scientific and policy experts could provide. It is beholden on all of us to take every opportunity to demonstrate worth and contribution potential from all aspects. We work hard to foster constructive and collaborative relationships with our industry partners and customers, enabling us to work with them on change. Technologically we continue to develop solutions and approaches which challenge the current norm. Due to the long lifecycle of major defence assets, and in particular maritime, technological change often takes a long time to be embraced and implemented. Globally the rate of change of technological capability and its employment seems to be getting ever faster. As a sector we need to be able to find new ways to implement technology so that Canadian assets remain relevant.
