36 OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2024 www.vanguardcanada.com G A M E C H A N G E R See the full interview online Q How did you start out in this industry and how has it brought you to where you are today? There was nothing very strategic about it quite frankly. After a rewarding career in the CAF, I was looking for an organiza- tion that had the same values that I have and that I could make a difference with. Not just from a business perspective, but through the mentoring and development of a young and talented team, some- thing I very much enjoy. Though I have only been with BluMetric a short time, it has only made me more motivated to contribute to its future success. I want to give a shout out to Treble Victor, a veteran's networking organization, who connected me to BluMetric. Q What is your role at your organization today? Currently we have settled on senior busi- ness development manager, although I enjoy contributing across all our market and service lines to provide solutions to our partners. Q What was your most challenging moment? It's about living up to my own expec- tations, so it's not a one-time deal, it's every day trying to do your best. Q What was your A-HA moment or epiphany that you think will resonate most with our reader, tell us that story. After a long career in the military, that moment came when I knew I made the right choice in joining BluMetric. Q How has innovation become engrained in your organization's culture and how is it being optimized? From the field service perspective the re- quirement to get it done at all costs cul- tivates a culture of innovation, because that broken water system jeopardizes the mission. You are not going long without water. Q What are some of the biggest impediments to innovation in your industry sector? I'll answer that in two ways. From an academic and non-profit perspective there is lots of positive and creative in- novation going on. Let's face it, water is a human right and the water crisis around the globe is just worsening. Though there is innovation in the in- dustry sector there is not enough. As with all industries that get comfort- able with their market, change is hard, so you have to really sell the future, in this case water, and where you want your company to be placed in that future. Q What technologies, business models, and trends will drive the biggest changes in your industry over the next two years? Like with most industries, the water busi- ness will be driven by improved materials for lighter and more durable products, energy efficiency and new energy sourc- es without sacrificing water flow for a greener world, artificial intelligence to monitor systems more accurately and more advanced engineering. BluMetric is and will be exploring all of these future inputs into the design and build of our systems. Q What is a habit that contributes to your success? Try to be consistent in your daily inter- actions with people and attempt to un- derstand what the other person is go- ing through. Your priority certainly may not be theirs, though my five espressos, a banana and a daily workout keeps me grounded and focused first thing in the morning. Q What is your parting piece of advice? Whoa, giving advice, don't we all love giv- ing it? But I guess at this phase of my life I would just say, live life to the fullest extent with empathy and understanding, and if you are not happy with your situation, change it. SCOTT HEALEY SENIOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER BLUMETRIC ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
