8FEBRUARY/MARCH 2025 www.vanguardcanada.com S SIT REP HMCS Margaret Brooke Embarks on Historic Operation PROJECTION 2025 SkyAlyne and KF Aerospace Boost RCAF Aircrew Training with Aircraft Acquisition On January 10, 2025, Halifax witnessed the departure of His Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Margaret Brooke. This signifi- cant event marks the vessel's inaugural participation in Op- eration PROJECTION 2025, taking the Harry DeWolf-class ship on an ambitious journey to South America and Antarctica. This deployment is particularly notable as it represents the Royal Canadian Navy's (RCN) first circumnavigation of South Amer- ica and its maiden voyage to Antarctic waters. Throughout this mission, HMCS Margaret Brooke will play a crucial role in fostering and strengthening international partnerships. In col- laboration with Global Affairs Canada, the ship is set to visit a series of ports across South America, engaging in diplomatic and cooperative activities. A highlight of the mission will be the ship's support for Canada's Antarctic scientific endeavours. Onboard will be a team of scientists from various Government of Canada agencies, leveraging the unique capabilities of the Margaret Brooke to further research in the region. Addition- ally, this deployment offers a valuable opportunity for the Royal Canadian Navy to demonstrate the innovative design and advanced operational capabilities of the Harry DeWolf- class vessels. The agreement involves the purchase of three Dash 8-400 aircraft, aimed at bolster- ing the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program. "SkyAlyne is excited to be able to combine a proven aircraft platform in the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, with our advanced air- borne simulation solution for the Future Aircrew Training pro- gram. The addition of the Dash 8-400 levels up our training capabilities for AES Op and ACSO Aircrew who will get their Wings in the FAcT program in the years ahead. Selecting a made-in-Canada aircraft is a meaningful contribution to the Canadian economy and a strong signal of our belief in Cana- dian aerospace excellence. I extend my thanks to everyone at SkyAlyne, KF Aerospace, and De Havilland Aircraft of Canada who worked hard to bring this aircraft to the FAcT program," expressed Kevin Lemke, General Manager, SkyAlyne. The Dash 8-400, a Canadian-made twin-engine turboprop, is celebrated for its reliability and cost-efficiency.
