10 OCTOBER/nOVEMBER 2014 www.vanguardcanada.com Thales successfully trials maritime picture fusion Thales Canada has successfully completed trials of its COMMANDER C3 Mari- time Mission Management System solution for the Canadian Maritime Situ- ational Awareness Project. Thales completed both harbour and sea acceptance trials for the fi rst phase of what is known as the IMIC3, or Interdepartmental Maritime Inte- grated Command, Control and Communications project. The system will integrate Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy systems into a shared, fully integrated national maritime picture using COM- MANDER C3. This fi rst phase trialed the integration of shore-based IMIC3 systems with portable systems and systems aboard coast guard vessels using the IRIDIUM satellite communications network. Using COMMANDER C3, the coast guard was able to achieve an integrated maritime picture, which allows for improved awareness of shipping activity and a background for deeper analy- sis of trends and vulnerabilities.
