Under a $12 million contract amendment, Cubic will work on the initial phase of a project that will add urban village training in several sites across Canada. The initial phase includes integrating and validating the system instrumenta- tion for the UOTS sites. Dartmouth-based UltRA ElECtRonICS MARItIME SyStEMS will provide two Sea Sentor Surface Ship Torpedo Defence systems for the Royal New Zealand Navy's frigate upgrade program through its sister com- pany, UK-based UltRA ElECtRonICS SonAR SyStEMS. CAE recently confirmed contracts valued at over C$115 million to provide a range of simulation products and services to the Polish Air Force, the German-French Tiger Helicopter Technical School, the Ger- man Army Aviation School, and the New Zealand Defence Forces. The first contract, awarded by AIRbUS DEfEnCE AnD SpACE, involves the design and manufacturing of a C295 full-flight simulator to support Polish Air Force training and will be the fourth developed for Airbus under a strategic cooperation agreement. loCkHEED MARtIn CAnADA MISSIon SyStEMS & tRAInIng has awarded a new research and development grant to InfIElD SCIEntIfIC. The grant will support InField's continued development of advanced technologies used to characterize and protect RCN ships. InField is a partner on the Halifax-class modernization project. Burnaby-based oSI MARItIME SyStEMS has signed a contract to pro- vide its ECPINS-W software to the U.S. Navy's Ship-to-Shore Connec- tor Landing Craft (SSC) program. The software will be integrated into the SSC Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Navi- gation system. The navy plans to build 73 landing craft under the program. OSI has also signed a contract to upgrade the Royal Navy's ECPINS-W Sub license, which includes modules for Ship Helicopter Operating Limits and Officer of the Watch State Board. HARRIS CoRpoRAtIon will supply various organizations in the CAF with its Falcon III tactical radios, including the AN/PRC-152A wide- band handheld radio, AN/PRC-117G wideband manpack radio, and the RF-7800H high-frequency manpack radio. gEnERAl DynAMICS lAnD SyStEMS-CAnADA has been awarded a $287 million contract to outfit 66 upgraded LAVs with a new reconnais- sance and surveillance system. The announcement was made at GDLS-C's facility in London in November and will see the integration of a surveillance suite that features radar, thermal, day and image intensification sights, a laser rangefinder and GPS, as well as up- grades to the vehicle's firepower and mobility. The upgraded LAVs will include a 10-metre retractable mast and operator control stations. 3M CAnADA will provide the U.S. Army with its new 3M M61 Respira- tory Mask Canister in a deal recently negotiated through the Canadian Commercial Corporation. The advanced filter technology in the light- weight canister is part of the new M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask and companion M51 Combat Vehicle Mask, both of which are fielded by all branches of U.S. armed services. Abbotsford-based gAtEkEEpER SyStEMS has received a new contract for its Viperfish airborne digital recording and post mission analysis system. The customer has not been identified but the contract is val- ued at approximately US$120,000. Viperfish recorders are currently in use on USAF AC-130 gunships, RCN Sea King helicopters, and with the French Navy. The tElfER SCHool of MAnAgEMEnt at the University of Ottawa and loCkHEED MARtIn CAnADA signed a partnership agreement in Novem- ber that will support the development of the first curriculum in Canada for complex project management and defence procurement studies. The agreement follows the launch in May of two Executive Master of Business degrees, one in complex program leadership and the other in strategic procurement. CAE has selected blUEDRop pERfoRMAnCE lEARnIng to complete work on the development of courseware for Canada's CC-130J Block 7.0 aircraft upgrades. CAE is designing, developing and providing the in- service support for the CC-130J and CH-147F training systems. bAbCoCk CAnADA has been awarded a $4.5 million contract to refit and extend the vessel life of the Canadian Coast Guard ship Des Groseil- liers. CHAntIER DAvIE CAnADA will perform the shipyard portion of the work. The Babcock-Davie team was awarded a $6.5 million contract in April to perform similar refit work on the Louis S. St-Laurent. ElbIt SyStEMS has been awarded a contract by RHEInMEtAll CAnADA to provide its ELSAT 2100 Satellite-on-the-Move (SOTM) systems for the CAF. The ELSAT 2100 allows high data rate broadband capabilities and can be installed on a variety of platforms with a small footprint. In a deal facilitated by the CAnADIAn CoMMERCIAl CoRpoRAtIon, gEn- ERAl DynAMICS CAnADA has signed a contract to upgrade four SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopters with an integrated mission system for the Peruvian Navy. GDC is drawing on the technological developed and delivered into Canada's CP-140 upgrade program and the CH 148 mari- time helicopter project. After signing a memorandum of understanding in May, AIRbUS DE- fEnCE AnD SpACE and pRovInCIAl AERoSpACE (PAL) inked a teaming agreement to pursue Canada's fixed-wing search and rescue (FWSAR) aircraft program. The agreement, signed during the Maritime and Arc- tic Security and Safety conference in St. John's, means PAL will be the main Canadian in-service support partner should the government select Airbus' C295 aircraft to replace the CC-115 Buffalo and some CC- 130 Hercules currently being used for SAR duties.
