BrIeF in GeneRAl DynAMiCs lAnD sysTeMs CAnADA in June issued contracts for systems on the Canadian Army's reconnaissance variant of the newly upgraded LAV 6.0. Montreal-based Revision MiliTARy received a $20 million contract for energy storage systems to power on- board sensor suites. And a THAles CAnADA-DRs susTAinMenT sysTeMs partnership received a $100 million contract for mast mounted sur- veillance suites and operator control systems. Montreal-based CAe has struck a deal with the Italian Directorate for Air Armaments and Airworthiness to develop and enhance a mission training simulator already on order for the Predator Un- manned Aerial System, part of an Italian effort to create a centre of excellence for Predators and other UAS. loCKHeeD MARTin CAnADA Mission sysTeMs & TRAininG awarded research and development funding to Ottawa-based MARiTiMe wAy sCienTiFiC to support continued development of an advanced acoustic modelling system called SPARTA (Sonar Performance- Acoustic Research–Tactical Analysis) and tactical decision aid technologies. RoCKwell Collins received a fixed-price contract from Boeing to provide avionics service and support to the RCAF's new fleet of 15 CH-147F helicopters at 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron. The Chi- nook helicopter cockpit features Rockwell Collins' Common Avionics Architecture System. AiRBus DeFenCe AnD spACe will equip Canadian military airfields in Canada with its Airport Surveillance Radar Next Generation (ASR NG) after the company passed factory acceptance tests earlier this year. Airbus won a contract in 2013 to replace existing radars with the ASR-NG in 2017. osi MARiTiMe sysTeMs signed a contract with loCKHeeD MARTin CAnADA to provide and support the installation of six integrated navigation and bridge systems on the RCN's new Harry deWolf-class of Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships. MeGGiTT DeFenCe sysTeMs uK and MeGGiTT TRAininG sysTeMs CAnADA have been combined to form Meggitt Target Systems, a move that will allow the company to offer its broad range of aerial, ground and marine surface targets and training services to armed forces globally. "This is one of those cases where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts," said Peter Longstaff, the company's new managing director. National Defence exercised a contract renewal with MACDonAlD DeTTwileR AnD AssoCiATes to provide operational support for the east and west coast RADARSAT-2 ground systems that support the Polar Epsilon Near-Real Time Ship Detection (NRTSD) system.
