WESTDEF is always a highlight of Canada's busy defence show cir-
cuit, and this year's effort continued the trend, offering a relaxed
and friendly atmosphere with a healthy dose of Western culture.
Opening remarks were kicked-off by the Honourable Michelle Rem-
pel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification on July
6, with Defence Minister Jason Kenney making an appearance on
the following day. Louise Mercier, President, FMJ Solutions, used her
well-honed Master of Ceremony skills to host the event, which tradi-
tionally runs during the same week as the Calgary Stampede.
Organizers worked hard to fit as much as they could into the three-
day event, with morning breakout sessions followed up by afternoon
workshops and presentations orientated to provide delegates with
practical, relevant information.
