BRIEF IN On September 21, Quebec-based firm HÉROUX-DEVTEK was awarded a long-term contract by FINMECCANICA-AGUSTAWEST- LAND to supply the landing gear for the AW609, a tiltrotor air- craft similar to the V-22 Osprey. Héroux-Devtek specializes in the design, development, manufacture and repair and over- haul of landing gear and actuation systems and components for the Aerospace market. The Corporation is the third largest landing gear company worldwide, supplying both commercial and military sectors. CHANTIER DAVIE CANADA and PROJECT RESOLVE INC. selected OSI MARITIME SYSTEMS on September 25 to provide its Integrated Navigation and Tactical System (INTS) for Canada's interim Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) vessel. Davie has been making the news a lot recently, supporting made-in-Canada suppliers and highlighting homegrown talent. September was also a time where a collection of Canadian F-35 suppliers banded together to voice concerns over Jus- tin Trudeau's promise to cancel the controversial fighter pro- gram. The CANADIAN JSF INDUSTRY GROUP (CJIG) pointed out that, in addition to providing the country with a capable "Fifth- Generation" fighter, LOCKHEED MARTIN and its large network of Canadian suppliers would produce 53,000 person years of employment in this country over 20 years. Bailing out, CJIG warned, would put these and other economic benefits at risk. Halifax-based CARTENAV SOLUTIONS INC., an international lead- er in situational awareness solutions for the maritime, land, and air environments, announced on September 25 that its AIMS-ISR software had been selected (yet again) by the Unit- ed Kingdom's National Air Police Ser vice (NPAS). CarteNav's flagship software will be installed on sur veillance aircraft. On September 29, BABCOCK CANADA INC., best known in Canada for getting the Victoria-class subs back to work, was awarded a $1.6 million contract for the replacement of High Frequency (HF) Monitor Receiver Systems at various Department of Na- tional Defence facilities. October was a successful month for the Canadian simulation and training giant CAE. The company closed the acquisition of BOMBARDIER'S Military Aviation Training business for $19.8 mil- lion, announced that its Airbus Helicopters H225 flight simu- lator in Oslo, Norway had reached the highest qualification by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and to top it all off, won more than $100 million in training ser vices and simulation products contracts around the world. THALES signed a contract with LOCKHEED MARTIN on October 7 to provide its IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) interrogators to the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship program, now under construction at IRVING SHIPYARDS. On October 8, CHANTIER DAVIE was back in the news. The Ger- man-built container ship MV Asterisk arrived in Levis, Quebec. The company believes its interim AOR will be ready to meet the needs of the RCN by 2017. On October 28, WOMEN IN DEFENCE & SECURIT Y (WiDS) will cel- ebrate its 10th anniversary at the Canadian War Museum. WiDS promotes the advancement of women leaders in defence and security professions across Canada. Lieutenant General (Retired) Patrick (Paddy) O'Donnell, CMM, CD dedicated himself to the service of this country, but at heart, he was a family man; one of those people that – despite the pressure and the pace of a military life – never lost sight of what was most important. Paddy, as he was known to friends, rose to the highest echelons of the Canadian Armed Forc- es, serving as Vice Chief of the Defence Staff before his retirement in 1995. He was a confi- dant, a mentor, and a friend to the people fortunate enough to serve with him.
