The combining of four provincial aero- space and defence associations into the Atlantic Canada Aerospace & Defence Association (ACADA) is an important step in ensuring the Regional voice of the industry is strong. DEFSEC applauds the completion of the merger and looks for- ward to partnering with the Association going forward. ACADA is a collaborative SME-focused organization representing the interests of the aerospace, defence, marine and secu- rity industries in Atlantic Canada. ACADA is comprised of approximately 200 indus- try members and organizations across At- lantic Canada. Most will attend this week and create opportunity through their wide range of talents and capabilities. The ACADA has a mandate to promote and facilitate the growth of our Atlantic Canadian aerospace, defence, marine and security industries. The ACADA plays an important leader- ship role as the regional voice and facili- tator for strategic industry engagement and has a proven track record as an ef- fective vehicle for harmonizing national and global promotion and advancement of the sector in Atlantic Canada. The ACADA focuses on a number of key initiatives and priorities on behalf of our membership including: • Advocacy – to ensure the voice of SMEs remains prevalent with respect to industry challenges and decisions concerning policies programs, and ini- tiatives. • Collaboration – to provide a forum to facilitate collaboration amongst indus- try members, academia and govern- ment stakeholders. • Marketing/Promotion – to heighten the awareness and profile of the Atlan- tic Canadian industry and resident ca- pabilities, both domestically and inter- nationally. • Business Development/Supply Chain Engagement – to improve market access and growth in defence and commercial supply chains through initiatives such as international trade missions, domestic events, defence procurement industry days/tours, B2B meeting programs, etc. • SME Development – to address sector-specific needs and enhance the skills and competitiveness of industry members through initiatives such as information sessions, training/profes- sional development, certification sup- port, market research/information sharing, etc. • Innovation & Commercialization – to lead initiatives to enhance innova- tion and commercialization capacity in the region by facilitating R&D invest- ments, academia-industry partnerships, commercialization of start-ups, etc. The organization has been an instrumen- tal contributor to the exponential growth of the SMEs involved in the industry, growing the sector (both directly and in- directly) by 150 per cent over the last 12 years and has also been a steady friend to DEFSEC Atlantic.
