The True Cost Per Flight Hour statistic is based on other countries total operation-
al costs beyond merely dealing solely with airframe considerations. The Typhoon
costs, for example, came from Austria as, unlike the U.K. who was a key builder of
the Typhoon. Belgium doesn't share the same kind of costs. Their costs would thus,
better represent Canada's true costs.
The Cost per taxpayer statistic is based on the 2014 CRA data with regards to total
tax forms filed. It better represents the true tax cost per Canadian. Both over the ex-
pected 30 years of each airframe as well as the per year cost per taxpayer. Even the
most expensive acquisition, the Typhoon, looks insane until you compare the yearly
cost per taxpayer of $68.06 per year, the most costly as compared to the Gripen E
at $22.40 per year but is only a difference of $45.66. The F-35 comes in at $56.77
per year, and it's by far, the most capable and future-proof platform. The cost of
$34.37 is what separates the Gripen and F-35 per year, per taxpayer.
The data collected to put together this
Dashboard was obtained from numerous
sources of which some are highlighted
below. A few things to note:
