I inside industry BAE Systems and United Technologies completed a successful guided flight test of the Multi-Service Standard Guided Projectile (MS-SGP) from a five-inch 62-caliber Mk 45 Mod 4 naval gun system. The flight test demonstrated the tactical capability to a range of 38 kilometers. The MS-SGP's maximum range is nearly 100 kilometers. Of significance to Canada, the MS-SGP, which is less expensive than many other fire support solutions, will be fired from an M777 towed howitzer later this summer. Fleet Canada of Fort Erie, Ont., has received a contract from Boeing to supply subassemblies for the United States KC-46A tanker program, which will replace the aging KC-135 Stratotankers. The KC-46A will provide aerial refueling support to the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and to coalition aircraft. The contract is part of Boeing's IRB obligations under four active programs: the CC177 airlifter; the Scan Eagle unmanned system; the CH-147 Chinook helicopter; and the Mercury Global program. Kelowna Flightcraft received a $15 million contract from the government for third-level maintenance of the RCAF's CC-115 Buffalo and CC-138 Twin Otter search and rescue aircraft. Germany's Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles will supply the Australian Defence Force with an extensive fleet of advanced logistical vehicles worth €1.1 billion. The joint venture between Rheinmetall AG and MAN Truck & Bus AG will also be a strong contender for the Canadian Medium Support Vehicle System-Standard Military Pattern project. The vehicles are part of Australia's Land 121 modernization program. Deliveries will begin in 2016 and should be completed in 2020. The 100th Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II will roll off the production line at Fort Worth, Texas this month. Following checkout flight and acceptance by the USAF, the conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) model, known as AF-41, will be the first aircraft to arrive at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona next year. The first pre-production Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) has been shipped for testing in the United States. In early July, manufacturer Textron Marine & Land Systems (TM&LS) sent the newest vehicle in the Canadian Army fleet to the Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland for qualification testing. TM&LS has also shipped three vehicles to Rheinmetall Canada in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu for Land Communication Information System training, electro-optical technical training performed by Kongsberg Protech Systems Canada and vehicle technician training by TM&LS. Textron expects to finish work on two additional pre-production TAPVs by late August, at which point five of the six will be sent to CFB Valcartier for two weeks of Operator and Gunner Operator Training, followed by Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Durability testing. Textron Systems Canada, which won the $700 million TAPV competition in June 2012 to manufacture 500 vehicles, with options for up to 100 more, says full-rate production will begin in January of 2014. 9.5 in.
