Capable of high speeds that will enable it to respond quickly to SAR calls but may be challenged to remain airborne at low speeds. Great ability for short take-off and landing, but weight could pose problem when landing in softer ground. Nation of origin: Italy Estimated cost: US$53.3 million/unit (2012) General characteristics • Crew: 3 (two pilots, and one load- master are minimum crew) • Capacity: • 92 passengers (128 for C-130J-30) or • 64 airborne troops (92 for C- 130J-30) or • 6 pallets (8 pallets for C-130J-30) or • 74 litter patients with 2 medical personnel (97 litters for C-130J-30) • 2–3 Humvees, or 1 LAV III (with turret removed) or an M113 armored personnel carrier • Payload: 19,050 kg) ; for C-130J-30: 19,958 kg • Length: 29.79 m (for C-130J-30: 34.36 m) • Wingspan: 40.41 m • Height: 11.84 m • Wing area: 162.1 m² • Empty weight: 34,274 kg • Useful load: 33,000 kg • Max. takeoff weight: up to 79,378 kg; normal 70,305 kg • Powerplant: 4 × Rolls-Royce AE 2100D3 turboprop, 4,637 shp (3,458 kW) each • Propellers: Dowty R391 6-blade composite propeller, 1 per engine Performance • Maximum speed: 671 km/h • Cruise speed: 643 km/h • Range: 5,250 km • Service ceiling: 8,615 m with 19,090 kilograms payload • Absolute altitude 1025. 8m • Takeoff distance: 953 m at 70,300 kg gross weight The current USAF HC-130J is not an exact match for FWSAR as it is a combat search-and rescue plane. Another HC-130J with the US Coast Guard conducts SAR as a non-primary role as it is considered a long-range surveillance aircraft. One advantage though is that both share commonality with Canada's CC-130Js. Country of origin: United States Estimated cost: US$67.3 million/unit General characteristics • Crew: 2 • Capacity: [16] • 80 passengers or • 64 airborne troops or • 6 pallets (68" X 108") or • 74 litter patients with 2 medical personnel or • 2-3 Humvee and Agrale Marruá or an Astros II MLRS or a LAV III and VBTP-MR Guarani Cargo compartment: Length 17.75 m X width 3.45 m X height 2.9 m • Payload: 23.6 tons • Length: 33.91 m • Wingspan: 35.06 m • Height: 10.26 m • Loaded weight: 74.0 tons • Max. takeoff weight: 81.0 tons • Powerplant: 2 × IAE V2500-E5 turbofan, 31,330 pounds-force each • Fuel capacity: 33,929 kg Performance • Maximum speed: Mach 0.8 (300 KCAS, 850 km/h) • Range: 4,815 km, with 13,335 kilograms payload) • Range with full payload: 2,593 km • Service ceiling: 10,973 m Designed from the start as a SAR aircraft but can also be configured as air tanker. The KC-390 is unique in that it is the only jet engine plane among the contenders. It could be the latest entry into the competition, certainly the newest aircraft as the prototype conducted its first plight only in February, 2015. Country of origin: Brazil Estimated cost: US $50 million (2007) General characteristics • Crew: Two • Capacity: 71 troops • Payload: 9,250 kg • Length: 24.50 m • Wingspan: 25.81 m • Height: 8.60 m • Wing area: 59 m² • Max. takeoff weight: 23,200 kg • Powerplant: 2 × Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G Hamilton Standard 586-F (six bladed), 1,972 kW (2,645 hp) each Performance • Maximum speed: 576 km/h • Cruise speed: 480 km/h • Range: with 3,000 kg payload, 4,600 km; with 6,000 kg payload, 3,700 km • Range with max 9,250 kg payload: 1,300 km • Ferry range: 5,400 km • Service ceiling: 9,100 m • Takeoff run: 670 m • Landing run: 320 m The C-27 J is slighter smaller and lighter than the C-295 giving the Span- ish aircraft some advantage in landing on softer airfields. This trade-off is in cabin and payload. The C-295 also has a longer landing and takeoff run. Its cargo can carry a fully assembled spare propeller. Its twin engines are from Pratt & Whitney Canada.
