Sponsored Content MISSION READY: Canada relies on Thales innovation F or more than 50 years, Thales Canada has been a major supplier and a long-term partner to DND, enabling the Canadian Armed Forces to achieve mission success. A proud partner of choice to Canada, Thales is delivering solutions to some of the most complex challenges faced by the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Cana- dian Coast Guard. In a historic announcement earlier this month, the Government of Canada awarded Canada's largest naval in-service support con- tract to Thales. The In-Service Support (ISS), refit, repair, main- tenance and training contract to both Artic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) and Joint Support Ships (JSS), known as AJISS, includes an initial service period of eight years for up to $800 Million with options to extend services up to 35 years, for a total value of $5.2 Billion. This program will create thousands of jobs, drive Canadian in- novation, build a new Canadian supply chain, and ensure that ships are mission-ready, on time, every time, from coast to coast to coast. The AJISS award builds on Thales' experience managing in- service support for systems onboard every major Royal Canadian Navy platform for the past 50 years, including Victoria-class sub- marines, Kingston-class maritime coastal defence vessels, Iroquois- class destroyers and Halifax-class frigates. Since 1989, the Australian Government with the Royal Australian Navy and industry, have trusted Thales to manage, maintain and upgrade its naval assets at the most important ship repair facility in the Southern Hemisphere, the Garden Island Naval Base in Sydney. With this extensive experience, Thales has become a leading deliverer of ISS performance based frameworks within relational contracting environments. Thales Canada will leverage this exper- tise to deliver a proven service model tailored for Canada. With presence in 60 countries worldwide, Thales understands the global landscape and together with its more than 1800 Cana- dian employees, drives the development of new, made-in-Canada solutions. Thales' AJISS solution offers Canada the best of Thales' capabilities including: s¬%FFECTIVE¬KNOWLEDGE¬TRANSFER s¬)NNOVATIVE¬SYSTEMS¬INTEGRATION¬AND¬SOFTWARE¬DEVELOPMENT s¬,EADING¬#ANADIAN¬2$¬INVESTMENT s¬#ONTINUOUS¬PERFORMANCE¬IMPROVEMENT s¬7ORLD¬CLASS¬PERFORMANCE¬BASED¬LOGISTICS EFFECTIVE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER Thales seeks the best solutions to meet the needs of its custom- ers through the effective knowledge transfer from deep within its global pedigree. Then, it develops that capacity right here in Canada. Case in point, in order to develop its Land Command Support System (LCSS) for Canada, Thales transferred the technologi- cal capability for the software from Europe to Canada, providing more than 1,000 person years and contributing more than 350 jobs to Canada's knowledge economy. In addition, more than 25 subcontractors worked on the program, many of them small and medium-sized enterprises. Skilled engineers support the design, development and evolution of the system and support world-class solutions to meet the evolving operational capabilities required by the Canadian Army. Since 2008, Thales has been delivering the LCSS to the Cana- dian Armed Forces enabling commanders to make effective and informed decisions using real-time battlefield information, evalu- ate intelligence and communicate effectively sharing a common Arctic and Oshore Patrol Vessel of the Harry DeWolf Class © Irving Shipbuilding Inc. 2015 LCSS PERSPECTIVE - THALES CANADA
