Earlier this year, as part of a delivery to the State Oceanic Administration of China, St. Catharines-based Shark Marine Technologies unveiled an enhanced version of its Sea-Wolf 3 ROV system. The Sea-Wolf 3 features new software capabilities, increased modularity, as well as increased payload, an external pan/tilt platform and an open frame design to allow more fl ow to the thrusters and less drag in currents. It's primary attraction, though, is the DiveLog software. Already fi eld proven for target mapping, route surveys, and target reacquisition, DiveLog now adds an increased level of autonomy for the ROV pilot to follow routes, seek a target destina- tion and remain on station. DiveLog has also simplifi ed the data inputs from multiple sensors onto one screen, while recording all the data into convenient project folders. Enhancing the Sea-Wolf Calgary's FLYHT Aerospace Solutions has unveiled a light-weight portable satellite communications device that blends existing FLYHT technology with that of the iPad. Cockpit satellite voice communications has mostly been limited to per- manently fi xed avionics devices. The Dragon provides a direct voice link anywhere and anytime operators need by seamlessly integrating into the cockpit via the pilot's headset or audio control panel and iPad. It offers intui- tive dialing and call answering and, in the event of an emergency, a panic button to dial a pre-set emergency number. Through D-mail (Dragon E-Mail), operators can conduct two-way text messaging on the iPad or iPad Mini without the usual restrictions of mes- sage length and archaic interfaces in most cockpits. D-mail allows dispatch to send METAR, TAF and NOTAM messages. To assist with fl ight monitor- ing often required by operators, the Dragon can feed existing ASD, at inter- vals if requested, for fl ight following and operational control purposes. Edmonton-based Pelican Products in March introduced the Pelican ProGear 2350 LED fl ashlight, a pocket-sized light powered by a single AA battery that weighs just 3.74 ounces (0.1 kg) and offers three modes: high, strobe and low. Its bright LED provides light of up to 100 lumens for as long as 1 hour 45 minutes in high mode. It also features a durable anodized aluminum construction and an anti-slip knurled pattern that allows for all-weather usage, as well as a removable clip for easy pocket storage and transport.
