10 AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2014 www.vanguardcanada.com Ottawa-based Track24 Defence has developed a ruggedized, handheld, waterproof, IP68-rated beyond line-of-sight satellite device called the Echo, for secure blue force tracking and command and control. The commercial off-the-shelf tracking and mes- saging solution operates on the Iridium satellite constellation and can function as a standalone device or as part of Track24 s SCC TITAN BFT software. Giles Peeters, Track24 defence sector director, says the Echo is smaller than the company's earlier tracking device, the Whisper, but is a better option for operating in austere environ- ments. With the ability to connect to an array of tablets, smartphones or sensors to transmit data in near-real time, the Echo has already found a home with one special forces organization. the Echo eff ect Burlington-based L-3 WESCAM has introduced enhancements to the electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) surveillance and targeting products within its MX-Series portfolio. For the MX-15 Surveillance System, the changes include enhanced imaging capability under a wide range of illumination conditions, improved zoom optics and a high-resolution shortwave IR imager with outstanding range performance at the limits of atmospheric visibility. The MX-20D & 25D Targeting Systems has added an Laser Spot Tracker and the MX-25 Surveillance & MX-25D Targeting Systems has enhanced low-light imaging capability. Furthermore, the turrets within the MX-Series can now be equipped with L-3 WESCAM's recently launched Kinetic technologies, which includes the ability to acquire accurate speed indications for ground vehicles; the ability to overlay location, direction of line of sight and a selected fi eld of view of a sensor onto a geographical moving map; the ability to detect multiple moving targets in an im- age stream; and the ability to combine the latter two into a powerful, integrated set of operator capabilities. Revision Military, a division of Montreal-based Revision Eyewear, recently unveiled a fully integrated night vision mount and accessory rail system, designed to fi t ACH-style helmets. The Revision Viper Front Mount doubles as an NVG mount as well as the platform to armor up in high-threat situations with the company's Batlskin Visor and Mandible Guard. The combination is a fully integrated and modular head protection system. The new interlocking rails mean head-borne accessories can be quickly attached or unattached as required.
